Harrison seniors shine in London parade

Two Harrison High School seniors had the experience of a lifetime performing in London’s New Year’s Day Parade. Maddie Reigel and Lizzy Nemacheck were selected as All-Americans during a summer cheer camp to earn the opportunity to represent their school and community on an international stage.

Despite the rainy weather, both girls agreed that performing in London was unforgettable.

“The rain couldn’t dampen our spirits,” says Maddie. “Hearing the cheers from thousands of people as we marched and performed in the streets of London was surreal. The energy from the crowd kept us smiling the whole time.”

“It was extremely cold and wet, but so much fun,” says Lizzy. “Marching and cheering with my American teammates felt surreal, especially knowing that many people in the crowd had never seen cheerleaders before. It made us feel like celebrities.”

The trip also gave the girls a chance to explore some of London’s most iconic landmarks.

For Maddie, highlights included visiting Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and walking through streets steeped in history. “Every moment felt surreal,” she says. “This trip taught me the value of perseverance, teamwork and community.”

Lizzy was especially captivated by Windsor Castle: “It was one of the most beautiful and breathtaking places I’ve ever seen. Walking through the gardens, chapels and extravagant rooms felt like stepping into a movie.”

The seniors say they returned with lasting memories and valuable lessons.

“This experience showed me how far dedication and hard work can take you,” Maddie reflects. “It also gave me a deeper appreciation for the people who support me, especially my mom, who sacrificed so much to make this trip possible.”

Lizzy’s takeaway was about courage and seizing opportunities. “I was scared to try out for All-American and even more nervous to travel abroad, but I’m so glad I did,” Lizzy says. “You never know what you might get out of something unless you try.”
