A holiday surprise to remember at Battle Ground Elementary
Sue Scott

Cheers filled the gym at Battle Ground Elementary School as a second-grade student and his family were surprised with an all-expenses-paid trip to Florida, thanks to the nonprofit Baking Memories 4 Kids.

Second and third grade students gathered for the announcement, many holding handmade signs as Cameron Thomas, his third-grade brother Rylan and parents Amy and Darcy Thomas learned they had been selected for the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Baking Memories 4 Kids, founded by Frank Squeo, is a national nonprofit that provides dream vacations to children living with critical illnesses and their families. Cameron was born healthy but at five months old suffered a life-altering injury from shaken baby syndrome. Now 6, he has endured 16 surgeries and countless medical appointments.

The Orlando trip will include a trip to Disney and give the Thomas family what they cherish most—time together making memories.
